501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization

Empowering Black Youth, NextGen Allies and Justice Impacted Individuals to become Entrepreneurs Through Training

B3I is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a clear mission: to empower Black youth, NextGen Allies and re-entry individuals to become entrepreneurs through workshops, bootcamps and mentorships that build sustainable businesses and fosters economic growth.

About B3I

Founded by LeBrent Speed and chaired by Cassandra Davis Speed, B3I empowers growth through mentorship, training, and a focus on cooperative economics, fostering shared success and generational wealth in Black communities.

b3i Mission

Our Mission

The Better Black Business Initiative (B3I) empowers underserved Black youth and justice impacted entrepreneurs through workshops, mentorships, camps and business networking in order to overcome systemic barriers, build sustainable wealth, and create a more equitable future.

b3i vision

Our Vision

We envision a world where Black youth and justice impacted individuals launch thriving businesses connected through business training and grounded in cooperative economics. These enterprises will generate jobs, build intergenerational wealth, and overcome structural barriers to capital and markets, contributing to a stronger and more equitable community economy.

Youth Development

Empowering young leaders through entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and mentorship, preparing youth ages 12 to 19 to launch ideas into action. Through our I'm a BOSS Youth Business Camp, we cultivate confidence, leadership, and innovation, giving tomorrow’s entrepreneurs the tools to build wealth and drive lasting community impact.

Re-Entry Enablement

Equipping returning citizens with business training, mentorship, and life skills to create lasting independence and stability. Our Lock-Up to Lift-Up program reduces barriers to re-entry by fostering entrepreneurship and providing the tools needed to succeed after incarceration. We empower justice-impacted individuals to rebuild their lives, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to stronger communities.

Simon ensures B3I operates with integrity, stays compliant, and is legally equipped to grow responsibly.

Julie Brown - Director of Human Resources

Julie brings HR expertise and a people-first approach to B3I. She leads recruitment, board onboarding, policies, and staff development, ensuring a transparent and supportive environment. Julie fosters healthy communication, championing professional growth, inclusion, and team cohesion across the organization.

Why B3I Started

"I founded The Better Black Business Initiative on the belief that entrepreneurship is a powerful pathway to economic independence. Too often, systemic barriers keep Black communities from accessing the resources, mentorship, and capital they need to thrive.

My vision for B3I is rooted in cooperative economics: the idea that when we share knowledge, pool resources, and build together, we create collective success that lifts entire communities.

Through our programs, we are not just building businesses. We are building stronger neighborhoods, creating jobs, and raising up the next generation of Black business leaders who will carry this legacy of empowerment forward."
